Trump-G7 chafing, Pruitt moisturizing: Darcy cartoon
CLEVELAND, Ohio — President Trump arrived late and left early from the Quebec G7 Summit he didn’t want to attend.
Trump left the summit early to head for his Singapore summit with Kim Jong Un. And he may have also left early to pick up some moisturizer from the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Montreal and a used mattress from the former Trump International Hotel in Toronto for Scott Pruitt.
The latest news from the Trump swamp is that EPA Secretary Scott Pruitt has been having his staffers and security detail track down Ritz Carlton moisturizer and a used mattress from a Trump Hotel.
You wouldn’t think Swamp Thing Pruitt would need moisturizer, let alone moisturizer from the Ritz Carlton. But after a hard day of unethical spending and making our air and water less safe, it’s understandable he would want a good night’s rest on an already broken-in Trump Hotel mattress, that may be stuffed with cash from Russians visiting to meet with Don Jr., Jared Kushner or Paul Manafort.
Trump and U.S. allies may need some moisturizer more than Pruitt from the severe tariff chafing they experienced at the G7 summit.
The summit started badly when Trump arrived late and immediately called for Putin to be allowed back in after being expelled for the annexation of Crimea. It ended worse, with Trump and Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau threatening a trade war, and Trump revoking the U.S. approval of the summit’s final joint statement.
In his news conference, Trudeau said the U.S. imposing stiff tariffs on Canada for national security reasons is “kind of insulting.”
“Canadians…stood shoulder to shoulder with American soldiers in far off lands in conflicts from the First World War onward,” Trudeau reminded Trump. “The president will continue to say what he says. I have made it clear to the president that [imposing retaliatory tariffs] is not something we relish doing, but it’s something we absolutely will do.”
Trump responded on twitter, calling Trudeau “meek” and “dishonest & weak, before withdrawing the U.S. endorsement of the G7 joint statement.
“PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, “US Tariffs were kind of insulting” and he “will not be pushed around.” Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his 270% on dairy!”
“Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!”

Trump has already initiated a trade war and that trade war is already hurting U.S. businesses and consumers, and will continue to do a so. But Trump is also delivering on his campaign promises.
What Trump is doing on trade should surprise no one. He ran against NAFTA and the Trans-Pacific trade deals. What he’s saying now about trade is what he’s been saying for years, long before even decided to run for president.
They say “be careful what you wish for” Trump’s trade war is living proof you should also be careful who and what you vote for.
Instead of attending the 2019 G7 summit, look for Trump to attend the 2019 G2 summit with Putin in Crimea.
